Once the checkered flag crossed on Sunday in Mugello, the whole MotoGP was allowed to say that they had completed a third of the 2024 season (35% if we want to be precise, if the calendar does complete 20 rounds).
Let’s take a look at which teams and which riders have been performing the best/worst and whether that goes with the predictions you might have add coming into this season.
Note : the average positions for sprints & races results do not account for DNFs (they’re only averages of races completed).
qualifying

Q2/Q2 results

Qualifying position results
3 riders have always qualified directly to Q2 : Jorge Martin, Maverick Viñales and Pecco Bagnaia. 5 riders have always been in Q2 : the riders above + Enea Bastianini (who survived Q1 in Le Mans) and Pedro Acosta (who survived Q1 in Portugal).
9 different riders have beaten the Q1 trial. So far, the best at the exercise has been Raul Fernandez (3 times : Losail, Barcelona, Mugello).
Not accounting for penalties, 9 riders have gotten at least one front row start. Jorge Martin has the highest number with 5 front row starts (71%). His two other results have been a P6 (COTA) and a P7 (Barcelona). Maverick Viñales has the second highest number of front rows (4) and Pecco Bagnaia had to wait until the 5th round in Le Mans to get a front row. He qualifying P2 in the last 3 rounds.

5 different riders have managed to capture the pole this season. That’s one more than last season at the same stage (2023 saw a total of 8 different polemen).
Only one rider has managed to get more than one pole : Jorge Martin (3 : Losail, Le Mans, Mugello).

Two factories shared the 7 poles :
- Ducati with 5 of them (from 3 different riders),
- Aprilia with 2 of them (from 2 different riders).
Two polemen have managed to win both the sprint and the Sunday race : Maverick Viñales in COTA and Jorge Martin in Le Mans.
Jorge Martin is so far the only rider to have crashed after starting on pole (Mugello sprint). He finished his weekend with a P3 on Sunday which solidified the following stat : at every round so far, the poleman has managed to score at least one podium.
Besides Jorge’s DNF, the worst result by a poleman is P6, achieved by Enea Bastianini in Portimao (sprint) and Marc Marquez in Jerez (sprint).
Note: Pecco Bagnaia, who had the most poles in 2023 (7), hasn’t scored a pole yet. The closest he came to it is P2 in the last 3 rounds.

After 7 round, this season has seen 4 different sprint winners : 2 from Ducati (Jorge Martin, Pecco Bagnaia) and 2 from Aprilia (Maverick Viñales, Aleix Espargaro). All sprints have been won from the front row (4 times from pole).
8 different riders have scored a sprint podium. Japanese bikes haven’t scored a podium yet (even though they could have in Jerez if it hadn’t been for the tyre pressure penalty hitting Fabio Quartararo). The repartition of the riders who have achieved a podium among the other factories is as follow :
- 3 riders from Ducati : Jorge Martin, Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia;
- 3 riders from KTM : Brad Binder, Pedro Acosta and Dani Pedrosa (wildcard);
- 2 riders from Aprilia : Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Viñales.
Jorge Martin has won the most amount of sprints (3). He also has the highest number of sprint podiums (5 : 3 P1s and 2 P3s), record which he shares with Marc Marquez (5 P2s). Then, Maverick Viñales and Pedro Acosta both have 3 sprint podiums (including two wins for Maverick).

Considering all the podium places : 11 of them were occupied by a Ducati rider, 5 by an Aprilia rider and 5 by a KTM rider.
Two riders have managed to score point in every sprint : Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta.
4 riders haven’t scored a sprint point yet : Alex Rins, Johann Zarco, Luca Marini and Takaaki Nakagami.

8 different riders have scored a Sunday race podium, again, all from European factories. The repartition is as follows :
- 5 riders from Ducati : Pecco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, Enea Bastianini, Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi,
- 2 riders from KTM : Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta,
- 1 rider from Aprilia.

Two riders have scored a point in every Sunday race so far : Brad Binder and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Only one rider has failed to score a point in a Sunday race so far (Luca Marini).
2 teams had double DNFs occurring during Sunday races :
- Pramac in Jerez,
- LCR in COTA.
teammates battles
Every rider has beaten their teammate at least once (including races where one rider DNFed and his teammate finished the race).
Qualifying wise, 4 riders have always done better than their teammate: Jorge Martin (Pramac), Marc Marquez (Gresini), Joan Mir (Honda) and Pedro Acosta (GasGas).
You can find the detailed results in the gallery right under.

others
Something very different from last season where we didn’t get a single race with the full grid : no one has missed a single race since the beginning of the 2024 season.
4 riders have finished all the sprints (Franco Morbidelli, Jack Miller, Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta) and 4 riders have finished all Sunday races (Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Luca Marini).
Hence something that you can gather from the precedent lines : every single rider has DNFed at least one race.
The highest number of DNFs is currently held by Joan Mir (6), then we have Johann Zarco (5) and Pecco Bagnaia (4).
The highest number of DNFs (9) and consequent fewest number of finishers (16) happened during the sprint in Jerez. That sprint was also the only race this season so far where tyre pressure penalties occurred (5 of them).
When we left Mugello, Jorge Martin and Pecco Bagnaia were 18 points apart. The highest number of points that ever separated them was 44 points (after the Barcelona sprint, when Pecco was P4 in the standings).
The highest gap between P1 & P2 in the championship was after the weekend in Barcelona (Pecco Bagnaia being 39 points behind Jorge Martin).
Let’s talk again in a couple of months to see how things have evolved and if the tendencies identified here keep going or change completely.
